History

In November 1994, the Britannia CPO opened in free space donated by the Britannia

Community Centre. Two patrol officers were assigned by the VPD to work with the CPO. The Britannia CPO worked under the umbrella of the Britannia Community Centre. Their own Advisory Committee was set up through elections from the CPO's volunteer roster, which was over 100 strong in the early months of the CPO.

ML Burke worked with volunteers, the community, other CPOs, and the VPD to establish the CPO's core programs during the first year, after which part-time coordinators were hired to continue the work.

Now the GWCPC is in its fourteenth year of operation, having consistently provided the Grandview-Woodland community with service to both businesses and residents, all of whom are the core target of our service area in and around Commercial Drive.

We have been operating out of our new location since 2004. We have made the office more community and VPD friendly. With more officers using our office for meals, research, and meetings, the GWCPC provides a more visible police presence in our neighbourhood.
