Safety Alerts
As reports are received regarding scams or suspicious people, the CPC produces a Safety Alert which is e-mailed and faxed to local businesses. This information is passed along to the VPD who can provide follow-up or use the information as part of a larger project. This has become an interactive program with businesses responding to initial alerts with follow-up about what has occurred in their own store.

Child ID
Using booklets from Child Find BC, this program offers parents the

chance to have their children’s fingerprints entered into an ID reference booklet. The child’s height and weight are noted and their photo is taken for inclusion in the ID booklet. If a child goes missing, this book gives police a quick reference. The Child ID project usually occurs in conjunction with other outreach events.

Security Audits
Our Constable and volunteers meet with members of strata buildings, social housing residents/staff, apartment residents, and co-op members to assess the security and design of their buildings.

Each session usually includes a question and answer session followed by a walk-through of the site. The constable provides recommendations on how to improve security of the building as well as the behaviour of the residents.

Block Watch
Every captain and co-captain in the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood is included on our electronic mailing list (e-group). We send out safety alerts, community event notices, public warnings of sexual offenders, and other relevant items.

Our Volunteer Coordinator is also a Block Watch captain and we will be actively promoting the program throughout the year.

We also presented crime prevention information to resident groups holding Block Watch parties.

Engraver
Our office has an engraver that can be signed out or used at our office to engrave belongings. Police recover stolen property every day, but are often unable to return items because owners cannot positively identify them. Adding your Driver’s License number can help reunite you and your missing/stolen property.
A copy of your driver’s license is required when borrowing the engraver.

Bike ID
The police department recovers hundreds of stolen bicycles each year, but unfortunately very few find their way back to the owner due to the lack of bicycle identification.

Bring your bicycle by our office and we can engrave your Drivers License or BC Identification Number onto your bike for you. Bike Registration forms are available, which owners can complete with details of their bike.

You can find your bike serial number by turning the bike upside down and looking on the frame right under the pedal assembly.
