In partnership with the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Police Department, and the Grandview-Woodland Community Policing Centre, the RestART program is an initiative that combines art and restorative justice principles to provide support and education for at-risk youth with a history of police contact.
The Restorative Justice portion of the workshop focused on accountability and taking responsibility for your actions. The importance of sharing in the community and living together
was a major topic of discussion. A significant component of the workshop was for the youth to create “restorative art” pieces.
The RestART participants were provided instruction in Graphic Design programs to create a cohesive artwork. Their art work was displayed on City of Vancouver traffic boxes and displayed
in various neighbourhoods throughout the city. The youth were able to focus on something positive and be creative while also giving back to the city and making something they could be proud of.
